The preparations for the Amarnath Yatra in 2025 are in full swing, with security forces and local administration conducting thorough inspections and trial runs ahead of the pilgrimage. The journey is set to commence on July 3, starting from the Baltal and Pahalgam routes in Jammu and Kashmir. Registration for devotees who missed the online window has begun at special centers in Jammu, attracting a large number of participants. Buses have been dispatched with full security to test logistics and response systems at the Jammu base camp for travelers. The first group of pilgrims is scheduled to officially depart from Jammu on July 2.
Mock Drill Conducted by Jammu and Kashmir Security Forces
The purpose of this exercise was to ensure the safety and preparedness of security forces and local administration ahead of the pilgrimage starting on June 3. During the drill, buses were sent under complete security cover to test the readiness and coordination of various security units. The simulation included emergency scenarios such as landslides and other natural disasters, focusing on rapid response, evacuation, and medical assistance for stranded pilgrims. This involved rescuing trapped vehicles, providing immediate first aid to the injured, and coordinating swift relief efforts through integrated disaster response and security teams.
Pilgrims Unfazed by Terror Threats
Despite recent security threats, the enthusiasm among pilgrims remains undeterred. One traveler expressed strong determination, stating, "I trust in Amarnath. Terrorists may try anything, but they will not succeed. I urge people to come to Jammu and Kashmir and show that we are not afraid."
Enhanced Security Measures in Jammu Ahead of Amarnath Yatra
In preparation for the Amarnath Yatra starting on July 3, Jammu police have strengthened security arrangements and established multiple checkpoints to thwart any potential plots. Officials have confirmed that the annual 38-day pilgrimage will commence from two routes. Pilgrims can choose the traditional 48-kilometer Pahalgam route in Anantnag district or the shorter yet steeper 14-kilometer Baltal route in Ganderbal district, leading to the 3,880-meter-high Amarnath cave temple. The first group of pilgrims will depart for Kashmir from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu a day before the journey begins. A police spokesperson stated, "In light of the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, Jammu police have significantly enhanced security by strategically establishing joint checkpoints at several critical locations throughout the district."
24/7 Operations in High-Sensitivity Areas
To ensure a smooth and secure pilgrimage, checkpoints have been set up in coordination with paramilitary forces. The spokesperson mentioned that these checkpoints will operate 24/7 in high-sensitivity and heavily trafficked areas, including national highways and routes leading to the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu.
Personal Oversight of Checkpoints
Personnel from the police, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), and other agencies have been deployed for thorough searches, monitoring, and verification tasks. The spokesperson noted that senior police officials are personally overseeing the checkpoints to ensure vigilance and convenience for the public. They emphasized that the checkpoint teams have been instructed to maintain a balance between rigorous checks and respectful treatment of pilgrims and citizens.
